Frequently Asked Questions

Please review the following guidelines for anyone hosting an event on site at Artscape Youngplace. If you have any questions about these policies or would like to make the arrangements indicated below, please contact Claire Leighton, Hub Manager: CLeighton@artscape.ca.
You must make a written request to the Hub Manager or Building Operator if you would like to use the building common areas (any hallways or stairwells) for any purpose, including for a registration table, coat racks or displaying signage.  There may be a fee associated with this use based on your plans and expected guests.  We will also ensure that your set up will not cause a fire and accessibility or hazard, and you must communicate all details of your requested common area setup. You cannot use the hallways for storage, including for bikes, boots or strollers – it is a fire and accessibility hazard and this policy is strictly enforced.  These items can be brought into your rented studio or can be left outside the building. No tenant, owner or guest can be prevented from accessing their own studio at any time.  Please ensure all your staff and volunteers are aware that they cannot block anyone from entering a building common area.
If you are holding an event at Artscape Youngplace, note that we abide by a Good Neighbour policy in which amplified sound (voice or music) or loud performances that might be heard outside the building may not begin before 7:30 a.m. nor extend past 10:00 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 11:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. This policy is non-negotiable.  Likewise, deliveries and pickups must happen after 7:30 am or before 11 pm.  Please get in touch with Artscape Staff if you require special arrangements in the building for event pickups in order to ensure we do not disturb our neighbours.
Tenants, owners, and their clients have the ability to serve alcohol under a Special Occasions Permit (SOP) for events being held at Artscape Youngplace. .  If you plan to serve alcohol at your event, you must obtain an SOP online from the Alcohol & Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). Visit agco.ca and create a new account in order to access the application form. If you plan on serving alcohol at your event please ensure you have acquired the proper SOP and have submitted a copy to the organization or individual you have rented the studio from, and you are following all parameters of the SOP including the security requirement. No alcohol can be served or travel into common areas without making prior arrangements with Artscape management.
To add your event to the Artscape Youngplace Website, click here. This information will be reviewed by our staff and added to the calendar within 48 hours of submission.  You can put up a promotional poster on any of the cork boards found in building washrooms and leave postcards on the community postcard rack in the main lobby. Postcards left anywhere else in the building will be removed and placed on this rack. Postcards for events that have passed will be recycled.
AYP is a “no paper-taped-to-wall signage” facility. This means signs are not to be taped to any surface.  Any paper signs found posted (With the exception of construction permits) will be removed.  Artscape has a number of freestanding sign frames that you can slip an 8 ½ x 11” sign into and can place it to identify or offer directions to your events.  Please contact the Concierge onsite if you need to use a sign frame or if you have questions about signage.  In the Shaw Entrance there are 2 whiteboard surfaces and available whiteboard markers so that you can list your events in an obvious place for guests entering the building. Under the appropriate heading, you can write on an event listing and location, such as   “8 pm - Young Leaders Group Meeting, LL2 (use the elevator to get to LL)”.   Artscape Staff will erase the event the following morning. Our concierge at the front desk can assist you with this.
All tenants and their guests must arrange any special event needs in advance. If you require the elevator and/or driveway, for set up, deliveries or pickups or adjustments to the front door hours, please connect with Artscape management at least 48 hours in advance.
