They Choose You: An Art Mixer for Adoptable Cats & People

They Choose You

Calling all cat lovers! Artscape Youngplace is excited to announce that we will be hosting They Choose You – a collaborative art mixer and participatory ephemeral art installation! Toronto-based artist Melanie Lowe has organized this event as an opportunity for cats from Toronto Cat Rescue to connect with people and find homes.
This project is art as activism, sincere and absurd at the same time, with a motive somewhere between a cat lady’s dream and a creative way to build community. The lives of the rescue cats are intertwined with the humans who inhabit the same city, allowing for an experiential connection in a shared space, beyond the walls of the animal shelter.

They Choose You will be open in Flex Studio 107 on Saturday November 22 & Sunday 23, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
Visiting the exhibition and hanging out with the adoptable cats is free!

In addition to the They Choose You art installation, there will also be an opportunity to craft up your Sunday afternoon! Join artist and educator Emily Gove for Cat Crafternoon – an afternoon crafting with human and feline friends! Craft your own leather cat pouch, fabric kitty brooch and crinkle blob cat toy, all while in the company of adoptable Toronto Cat Rescue kitties. All supplies and snacks provided. Activities are suitable for all ages, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Cat Crafternoon is Sunday November 23 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Register via email with Emily: She will follow up with the details!

They Choose You also has an indiegogo campaign which you can visit if you’d like to support the project or check out some documentation from a previous iteration of Lowe’s art and cat adoption event!
