The Smart Cookie Club is a learning program for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 18 months-4 years) and their parents/caregivers. Toddler classes are happening every Tuesday from 9:15-10:15 and Preschool classes run on Tuesdays from 10:45-11:45. The co-founding teachers are qualified ECEs and OCTs whose aim is to provide fun and engaging learning opportunities for children while giving parents/caregivers the tools and knowledge to support their children’s development at home. Each class is one hour long and classes will cater to individual age bands. The classes will be based around a theme or a book and the activities we provide will relate to these themes. We will have between 2-3 different activities that will focus on communication and literacy, math and manipulatives, science and sensory. Each activity will be broken up by gross motor movement activities cause that’s how kiddies learn best! Here’s what we hope differentiates us from the rest: As much as we want to engage our young learners in play-based learning activities, we equally want to engage parents and caregivers in the learning process. Each class has specifically been designed to address the developmental age band that the children are in. At the beginning of each class, we will educate parents/caregivers about the learning objectives we are focusing on for the session and how/why it is important for child development. Throughout the classes, we will be modelling how to extend and modify the child’s learning, responses, etc. and providing some useful tips to parents so that they can help nurture age-appropriate development at home. Towards the end of the session, we will allow for a 15 min Q&A so that people have an opportunity to ask questions about the class but also about other issues they might be experiencing at home with their child.
