Presence Workshop

June 2 to June 4

Practice clown and you’ll find that you may or may not BE a clown but your mind will expand in the attempt to achieve clownhood; The next to impossible work of authentically discovering your pleasure to play as well as your inner idiot – fallible, sensitive, open, human and ridiculous. After enough practice you’ll know exactly what you’re doing but make it look like you have no idea. If your pleasure play is great enough you will engage with a powerful force that connects you on a profound level to the audience.

“With this work people have to find a way of being beautiful and surprising… and by beautiful I mean being in the grip of pleasure or freedom”.
Philippe Gaulier

This work helps us get unstuck. It teaches us to listen, to re-discover play, not to push too much or shy away but to let go and be attuned to the moment. It’s a rudimentary practice for anyone.

This form is studied to discover one’s clown. For actors it’s an essential workout to become more sensitive, open and connected to yourself and your audience. For non-actors it’s a practice of re-discovering your pleasure to play, facing fears, showing up and finding your powerful connection with others.
