This workshop is the 101 of handmade paper! Journey through the process of papermaking from raw materials to hand pulled sheets of paper. Come and explore the basics of traditional European-style sheet forming with one of our friendly, expert papermakers. Making paper is a relaxing and meditative process that is both expressive and lots of fun.
We will show students how to use fibres such as cotton and abaca (related to the banana tree) to pull their very own sheets of paper. Our instructors will introduce students to pulps made from black cotton and denim as well. Discover the art of stenciling pulp. We will encourage you to make your paper more personal by bringing materials you would like to incorporate into your paper such as thread, cut up photos and even herbs!
Students will leave this course with 40-60 hand-pulled custom sheets of paper and enough knowledge to continue exploring paper at home and as a renter at Paperhouse.
this is a two week class.
