Shades of red, pink and purple can all be found in Cochineal. A dye that comes from a very specific insect, it has been used in a myriad of applications that include food and cosmetics. A traditional textile dye, it works very well with papers – sometimes to wonderful effect. Explore the possibilities of this ancient insect dye in a one day class.
In this 2 day workshop, students will learn the basics of dying with Cochineal – from what the dye is, through the steps needed to prepare a working vat, and on to various methods of dying with it. In addition, students will leave with 20 sheets of gelatine sized dyed paper.
